Band of Joy was originally formed in 1966 in West Bromwich, near Birmingham, England, by Chris Brown (keyboards), Vernon Pereira (guitar), and singer Robert Plant. A third incarnation of the band, including Plant's friend John Bonham lasted from 1967 to mid-1968.

Vernon Pereira (shown top left in the Stringbeats photo) was an immigrant-born neighbour of Robert Plant as they both lived at the time in Trinity Road, West Bromwich. He was actually a cousin of Robert's girlfriend Maureen. Vernon had a good singing voice and enough charisma to front his own band.

Band of Joy was originally formed in 1966 in West Bromwich, near Birmingham, England by Chris Brown (keyboards), Vernon Pereira (guitar), and singer Robert Plant. Conflicts with the band's management led to Plant leaving the group after a few months.
Following the dissolution of Listen, at the start of 1967, Plant joined friends in a new group called Band of Joy, which was founded by Pete 'Plug' Robinson (drums), Chris Brown (organ) and Mick Reeves (bass guitar), and Jamshedpur-born guitarist Vernon Pereira (ex-the Stringbeats). Pereira was the cousin of Plant's future wife, Maureen Wilson.
This was a scene in which band- leader, Vernon Pereira, had been a key figure.The band were formed in late 1969 when Vernon teamed up (after a spell playing next to Robert Plant in The Band Of Joy) with Mick Reeves, who had been playing in (amongst other bands) Sugarstack with Al Atkins.
