When the conflict in Korea ended in July 1953, the Chinese Communists turned their attention to offshore islands still held by the KMT: Dachen, Matsu, and Quemoy. The resulting clashes came to be known as the First Taiwan Strait Crisis (1954-1955) and the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis (1958).
