Situated on the banks of the Charles River, Boston University School of Theology is the oldest United Methodist seminary in North America, and we have prepared leaders to make a positive difference for nearly two centuries.
Degree Programs and Courses. Boston University School of Theology is a medium-sized seminary serving just over 300 students within a major research university. This affords our students multiple and varied opportunities for interdisciplinary study, which is not only available, but encouraged.
Boston University School of Theology (STH) is the oldest theological seminary of American Methodism and the founding school of Boston University, the largest private research university in New England. It is one of thirteen theological schools maintained by the United Methodist Church.
The purpose of the Boston University School of Theology is to pursue knowledge of God, to cultivate leaders for communities of faith, to enrich the academy, and to seek peace with justice in a diverse and interconnected world.

Our Master of Arts in Religion and Public Leadership (MARPL) degree program is designed for students from diverse vocations who aim to creatively engage religion in public life, and prepares them for work as community leaders and public theologians.
