Bullshit Detector was the name of a series of compilation LPs put together by the anarcho-punk band Crass and released on their Crass Records label. Three editions were released between 1980 and 1984, consisting of demo tapes, rough recordings and artwork that had been sent to the band.

9 de jun. de 2023 · Bullshit Detector Vol 3. 1984 was the year that Crass called it a day and probably why there wasn’t a fourth installment from the label (although a Bullshit Detector Four was released by Resistance Productions of Switzerland and Loony Tunes Records 10 years later).
24 de jul. de 2023 · The title of Bullshit Detector came from a lyric from “Garageland,” a track from The Clash’s 1977 debut album that attested to the joys of DIY creation. From the perspective of many anarcho-punks, though, The Clash had sold out, signing to a major label and turning their sights to breaking America.

A possible explanation: many a young anarch-o-punky has coveted Crass’s three “Bullshit Detector” compilations, only to finally track them down and be terribly disappointed.
