The Marcels were an American doo-wop group known for turning popular music songs into rock and roll. The group formed in 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and signed to Colpix Records with lead Cornelius Harp, bass Fred Johnson, Gene Bricker, Ron Mundy, and Richard Knauss.

Mundy lived in Pittsburgh and died of pneumonia at Allegheny General Hospital on Friday. The five-member vocal group reportedly recorded the song in two takes.

Original black singer Ron Mundy left not long afterwards. In 1962 lead singer Cornelius Harp and Allen Johnson departed the group and were replaced by Richard Johnson and William Herndon. In 1973 the original members reunited for several recordings.
