The Singapore Grip is an ITV six-part television drama series. It is an adaptation of Booker Prize winner J.G. Farrell's 1978 novel The Singapore Grip. The story tells of a love affair taking place around the time of the Japanese invasion of Singapore. It stars Luke Treadaway, David Morrissey and Elizabeth Tan.
Singapore for Beginners. 1942, the British colonial 'strait Settlements' haven't yet felt the sting of Japanese invasion but keep on partying. Wise cynic Webb and his junior partner Walter Blackett run a major rubber export firm, bound to profit from the Allied war demand.
The Singapore Grip is a satirical book about events following Japan's entry into the Second World War by invading South East Asia and swiftly occupying Singapore. The story centres on a British family who control one of the colony's leading trading companies.
