Die Band begann 1967 in Husum mit Oreste „Lilio“ Malagia, Dieter Ahrendt, Gerd Beliaeff, Detlef Petersen, Fritz „Freddy“ Graack und Martin Tiefensee als Tornados. Zeitweise war auch Hans Hartz als Leadsänger dabei. 1973 formierte sie sich nach Aufnahme von Ian Cussick als Lake neu.

Lake is the first studio album by Lake, released in Germany in 1976 and the USA in 1977. The track "Time Bomb" was the band's highest charting single of their career. It reached #91 in Canada in December 1977.
The story of Lake started in 1970, when keyboarder Detlef Petersen, drummer Fritz "Freddy" Graack and bassist Martin Tiefensee joined a band known under the name "Tornados". The band was known to be Germany's Top 40 band, which means that they basically played material which has already been perfomed by other artists.
