Hace 4 días · Young Margaret’s father, John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset (older brother of Edmund) died in 1445, possibly by committing suicide, as a result Margaret became the ward of the influential Suffolk. De la pole married his son to the heiress and was accused by contemporaries that he intended to have John named as heir to the childless king Henry.
Hace 3 días · Henry VI ennobled his half-brothers: Edmund became Earl of Richmond on 15 December 1449 and was married to Lady Margaret Beaufort, the great-granddaughter of John of Gaunt, the progenitor of the house of Lancaster; Jasper became Earl of Pembroke on 23 November 1452. Edmund died on 3 November 1456.
