Eugène Delacroix est né le 26 avril 1798, tout près de Paris, à Charenton-Saint-Maurice. Sa maison natale est aujourd’hui la médiathèque de la Ville de Saint-Maurice (dans l’actuel Val-de-Marne). Quand il naît, son père, Charles Delacroix, occupe des fonctions importantes comme ministre des Affaires étrangères, puis comme ambassadeur en Hollande.
