  3. It seems really, really nice (congrats!), but the big minus of drawing with a grid is that you can draw a portrait with disturbed proportions and not understand it. Grid drawing is more beneficial when you really know how to measure proportions and shapes without it.

The first will give you a great method for drawing heads proportionally, even for fantasy characters. The second will teach you figure drawing proportions and give you a method for consistency. 2. However, in this case the size of this portrait (16×20) makes it too large to print—so I did have to hand-draw it.
