As the title says, I tried using a grid to help me get stuff on the right places. I put a grid overlay on the photography I wanted to draw, and then made out the same grid on the paper, and tried to fill in the correct stuff in the right boxes.
I've recently started trying to draw realistically, and so far, I've primarily used the grid method, and when I don't, my drawings do not have good proportions, no matter how hard I try. It seems really, really nice (congrats!), but the big minus of drawing with a grid is that you can draw a portrait with disturbed proportions and not understand it. Grid drawing is more beneficial when you really know how to measure proportions and shapes without it.

The first will give you a great method for drawing heads proportionally, even for fantasy characters. The second will teach you figure drawing proportions and give you a method for consistency. 2. 14 de oct. de 2014 · 1. Add a grid to your drawing paper. It’s a painstaking job to draw an accurate grid by hand, which is why I prefer to print this grid on my paper whenever possible. However, in this case the size of this portrait (16×20) makes it too large to print—so I did have to hand-draw it.
