"Footprints" is a jazz standard composed by saxophonist Wayne Shorter and first recorded for his album Adam's Apple in 1966. The first commercial release of the song was a different recording on the Miles Davis album Miles Smiles recorded later in 1966, but released earlier.

“Footprints” (1966), by Wayne Shorter, first appeared on his 1966 album “Adam’s Apple”. Although occasionally mistaken for a waltz, the melody alternates between simple and compound time (6 over 8 and 4 over 4), while drum rhythm goes from three-over-two to two-over-two.
