The original Type 57 was a touring car model produced from 1934 through 1940. It used the 3.3 L (3,257 cc; 198 cu in) engine from the Type 59 Grand Prix cars, producing 135 hp (100 kW). Top speed was 153 km/h (95 mph). It rode on a 3,302 mm (130 in) wheelbase and had a 1,349 mm (53 in) wide track.
Bugatti Type 57 S Gangloff Atalante. Some of Jean Bugatti's standard Type 57 designs were available on the shorter and lower 'S' chassis, including the Atalante two-door coupe of which the featured s/n 57501 is an excellent example. It was completed in 1937 and remained in France.

Unlike the other bodies, the Stelvio body type was designed and built by French coach-builder Gangloff. The fourth body was dubbed Atalante and was the two-seater coupe variant. With a price twice as high as that of the least expensive Type 57, the Atalante was the most exclusive body of the lot.
For the T57S that means Gangloff. For a Bentley, Gurney Nutting, a Mercedes-Benz, Sindelfingen and for the Duesenberg Models J and SJ, Murphy or Rollston. The only problem is that all five bodies created by Gangloff are ravishingly beautiful, making it impossible to write anything but paeans of praise. Which makes for boring writing, and reading.
With its streamlined styling, low-slung chassis and supercharged engine, the Type 57SC Atalante is one of the most desirable Bugattis. It was personally designed by Jean Bugatti as a two-seater sports coupe and became the rarest of the four different body styles offered by Carrosorie Bugatti.
