Henry Hyde, 2nd Earl of Clarendon, PC (2 June 1638 – 31 October 1709) was an English aristocrat and politician. He held high office at the beginning of the reign of his brother-in-law, King James II.
29 de may. de 2024 · Henry Hyde, 2nd earl of Clarendon was an English statesman, the eldest son of the 1st Earl of Clarendon and a Royalist who opposed the accession of William and Mary. As Viscount Cornbury he became a member of Parliament in 1661 and, in 1674, succeeded to the earldom on his father’s death.
Earl of Clarendon is a title that has been created twice in British history, in 1661 and 1776. The family seat is Holywell House, near Swanmore, Hampshire.

On the accession of his brother‐in‐law James II in 1685, Clarendon and his younger brother Rochester were given high office.
Henry was the eldest son of Edward Hyde, the 1st Earl of Clarendon, and his second wife, Frances, the daughter of Sir Thomas Aylesbury. As Royalist exiles, both he and his brother, Laurence (later Earl of Rochester), spent part of their boyhood under their mother's care in Antwerp and Breda.
