Chris Redfield, one of the few survivors of the incident, is now working as an agent for the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA). His mission: head to the Kijuju Autonomous Zone in an undisclosed African country and apprehend an arms dealer specializing in biological weapons.

Resident Evil 5 is the first game in the Resident Evil series designed for two-player cooperative gameplay. The player controls Chris, a former member of the fictional Special Tactics and Rescue Service (STARS) and member of the BSAA, and a second player can control Sheva, who is introduced in this game.
Chris lost his Samurai Edge during the chase and was unable to recover it. Chris finds out that Wesker is an Umbrella spy. Redfield, Burton, Wesker, and Valentine split up to investigate the mansion. Redfield found Bravo Team member Rebecca Chambers, whose team had also sought shelter in the mansion and split up.
