Splinter and Knothead are the niece and nephew of Woody Woodpecker. Splinter and Knothead first appeared in the comic story "Rest Awhile" in Walter Lantz New Funnies #182 (April, 1952), 4 years before their first animated short, Get Lost!.
Knothead is Woody Woodpecker's nephew. He is very intelligent to the point where he and Splinter (his sister) can use laser blasters with ease. He is quick-witted like his sister.
Woody's niece and nephew Splinter and Knothead first made their appearances in the comics, later appearing in the cartoons. Notable creators involved with the Woody Woodpecker comic included Carl Fallberg, Paul Murry, Tony Strobl, Frank Thomas, and in the European comics, Freddy Milton.
