The witches gather on the moor and cast a spell as Macbeth and Banquo arrive. The witches hail Macbeth first as his title Thane of Glamis, then Thane of Cawdor and finally king, and prophesy that Banquo’s children will become kings.
In Act 4, scene 1, Macbeth returns to ask the Witches for more prophesies. Sensing his presence, the Second Witch calls Macbeth “wicked.” Her words mark the first time the witches describe Macbeth as evil in the play.
