Kenneth Duane Snelson (June 29, 1927 – December 22, 2016) was an American contemporary sculptor and photographer. His sculptural works, exemplified by Needle Tower, are composed of flexible and rigid components arranged according to the idea of ' tensegrity '.
The exhibition will open on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, and remain on view through Friday, November 12, 2021. Kenneth Snelson (1927-2016) developed his patented tensegrity structural technology over two summers spent at Black Mountain College alongside his early collaborator Buckminster Fuller.
Such crystallographic patterns infuse Snelson’s visual lexicon with a complete range of expressive possibilities, with forms as restful as the low-lying expansiveness of Cordobes, 1970, or as restive as the busy rhythms of Spring Street, 1964.
