Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay (anglicized as Chatterjee) CIE (26 or 27 June 1838 – 8 April 1894) was an Indian novelist, poet, essayist and journalist. He was the author of the 1882 Bengali language novel Anandamath, which is one of the landmarks of modern Bengali and Indian literature.

Bankim Chandra Chatterjee (born June 26/27, 1838, near Naihati, Bengal, India—died April 8, 1894, Calcutta) Indian author, whose novels firmly established prose as a literary vehicle for the Bengali language and helped create in India a school of fiction on the European model.
