Werner Arber (3 de junio de 1929 en Gränichen, Suiza) es un microbiólogo suizo. Nació en Gränichen, en el cantón suizo de Argovia. Asistió a colegios públicos y se graduó en ciencias en 1953 en el Instituto Federal de Tecnología de Zúrich. Se doctoró en la Universidad de Ginebra en 1958.
Werner Arber (born 3 June 1929 in Gränichen, Aargau) is a Swiss microbiologist and geneticist. Along with American researchers Hamilton Smith and Daniel Nathans , Werner Arber shared the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of restriction endonucleases .

He was the former professor of experimental physics at the University of Geneva. After having suffered a heart attack, he had left Geneva to become a researcher at the Department of Biology of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
