William de Braose, ( alias Breuse, Brewes, Brehuse, [1] Briouze, Brewose etc.; c. 1224 –1291) was the first Baron Braose, as well as Lord of Gower and Lord of Bramber. [2] Family and early life. Braose was the son of John de Braose, the Lord of Bramber and Gower and John's wife Margaret, the daughter of Llywelyn the Great, prince of Gwynedd. [2] .

Some blamed his captor, William de Braose, when King John raised William up to become arguably the most powerful man in the land. The Lord of Bramber even extended his reach to Limerick in Ireland. The demise of William and Matilda was a tragic one.
William de Braose is recorded to have sat in the Parliament of April and May 1290, so is deemed to have been summoned as a lord of Parliament. On 29 December 1299, his son William de Braose was summoned to Parliament. On his death in 1326, the first creation of the barony fell into abeyance.
