Grigorios Dimitrios Dikaios-Flessas (Γρηγόριος Δημήτριος Δικαίος-Φλέσσας; 1788 – 25 May 1825), popularly known as Papaflessas (Greek: Παπαφλέσσας) was a Greek priest and government official who became one of the most influential figures during the Greek War of Independence.

25 de mar. de 2023 · In 1816, he became a monk in the monastery of Panagias tis Velanidias in Kalamata, where he took the name Grigorios Flessas, hence “Papaflessas” (or literally “priest Flessas”). Papaflessas soon clashed fiercely with a Turkish official over the monastery property and was forced to leave the area.
24 de mar. de 2021 · Papaflessas was one of the most prominent figures during the Greek War of Independence. He was born as the 28th and last son of Demetrius Dikaios. He studied under a strict educational system close to very skilled teachers. At a young age, he became a priest and received the name Gregorios Phlessas.

He was one of twenty-eight children — and rumor has it that he was a womanizer like his father had been. He was ordained to the highest position of priesthood, Archimandrites, in 1819.
The proud Municipal Unit of Papaflessa has borrowed its name from the hero of the Greek Revolution who bravely fought in the village of Maniaki on 20 May 1825; one of the most significant battles against the Turkish invaders.
