Sir Henry Guildford, KG (1489–1532) was an English courtier of the reign of King Henry VIII, master of the horse and comptroller of the royal household .
Sir Henry Guildford (1489‒1532) was one of Henry VIII’s closest friends. On the King’s accession in 1509 he was appointed Esquire of the Body - a personal attendant on the King - and Master of Revels, responsible for organising the lavish entertainments at court.
Sir Henry Guildford (1489–1532) was two years older than Henry, and was a close friend of the Prince. Guildford was one of Holbein’s earliest patrons and was portrayed by the artist in 1527, the year after he had been made a Knight of the Garter.

Biography. As the youngest son of a father who, before he died considerably in debt, had obtained an Act (11 Hen. VII, c.49) freeing his lands in Kent from gavelkind, Henry Guildford inherited little land and an annuity of only £10.
The powerful Sir Henry Guildford, who had been appointed Comptroller of the Household by Henry VIII in 1525, was one of Holbein’s earliest English patrons. He commissioned portraits of himself (fig. 30.1) and his wife, Mary Wotton, Lady Guildford, in 1527 (Saint Louis Art Museum).
