Richard Gavin Gardiner Casey, Baron Casey, KG, GCMG, CH, DSO, MC, PC (29 August 1890 – 17 June 1976) was an Australian statesman who served as the 16th Governor-General of Australia, in office from 1965 to 1969.
Casey was the first Australian citizen to be recommended for the governor-generalship by a non-Labor government; provided that he performed well, it was unlikely that there would be a reversion to appointees from Britain.
During his lifetime, Lord Richard Casey, politician, diplomat and Governor-General, championed Australia’s Antarctic interests. In 1937, Casey had his first experience of Antarctic affairs as chairman of the polar committee of the Imperial Conference in London.
