17 de jun. de 2022 · Al finalizar el Tratado de Compra de Luisiana, Jefferson inició una exploración del territorio recién comprado y de la tierra más allá de las “grandes montañas rocosas” en el oeste. Eligió a Meriwether Lewis para dirigir la expedición, quien a su vez solicitó la ayuda de William Clark.
