Syed Ameer Ali Order of the Star of India (6 April 1849 – 3 August 1928) was an Indian jurist, a prominent political leader, and author of a number of influential books on Muslim history and the modern development of Islam.
In 1920s, during the course of Khilafat Movement, Syed Ameer Ali presented the emotional point of view of the Indian Muslims to the British government. Ameer Ali is also famous for his social works. He founded a Medical Aid Fund for the Indian Women.

Syed Ameer Ali was a lawyer, a judge, a political and social reformer, and a scholar of Islam. He wrote a number of books on Islamic law. He first arrived in the UK in 1869 initially to compete for the ICS. He was friends with the Fawcetts and attended female suffrage meetings in 1870.
AMEER ALI, SYED (1849 – 1928), Indian Muslim historian, jurist, and politician. Ameer Ali was born in Chinsura, Bengal, a suburb of Calcutta. His family spoke Urdu, having migrated from Avadh shortly before his birth to join a small community of fellow Sh īʿī Muslims of Iranian descent.
Primarily known as a jurist, Ameer Ali was the first Muslim to be appointed as a Calcutta High Court judge and the first Indian ever to be elected to the Privy Council. His scholarly treatises on history, culture and law continue to be widely appreciated by the readers of the East and the West.
