For Robert's 31st birthday, Clara writes music to a poem that had always shown how she felt for him. On June 8th, 1841, she presents her song to to him, Liebst du um Schönheit, with words by Friedrich Rückert.
Desgraciadamente Robert se hunde en la enajenación y es recluido en un sanatorio donde fallecerá en 1856 a los 46 años. Brahms ayudará en todo a la familia y confesará su amor a la viuda Clara (14 años mayor que él) de quien estuvo siempre enamorado.
