Franz Xaver Süssmayr ([fʁant͡s ˈksaː.vɐ ˈsyːs.maɪ̯ɐ]; also Süßmayr, or Suessmayr in English; 1766 – September 17, 1803) was an Austrian composer and conductor. Popular in his day, he is now known primarily as the composer who completed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's unfinished Requiem.
Franz Xaver Süssmayr (born 1766, Schwanenstadt, Oberösterreich [now in Austria]—died Sept. 17, 1803, Vienna) was an Austrian composer best known in the 20th century for having completed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem (K 626). Süssmayr was educated at Kremsmünster, a monastery school.
