Sir Brendan Foster CBE (born 12 January 1948) is a British former long-distance runner, athletics commentator and road race organiser. He founded the Great North Run, one of the sport's most high profile half-marathon races.
Brendan Foster (nacido el 12 de enero de 1948 en Hebburn, Tyne y Wear, Inglaterra) es un exatleta británico especializado en carreras de fondo, y fundador de la Great North Run. Se educó en la St Joseph's Grammar School y en la Universidad de Sussex.
Brendan Foster is a British former long-distance runner who founded the Great North Run. He won the bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the Montreal 1976: Games of the XXI Olympiad (1976), and the gold medal in the 5,000 meters at the 1974 European Championships and the 10,000 meters at the 1978 Commonwealth Games.
The former Olympic bronze medallist and world record-breaker received the honour for his services to sport and culture in North East England. He also founded the Great North Run, a popular half marathon event that hosts the World Half Marathon Championships.
