St. Michael's College (the College of St. Michael and All Angels) was founded by Sir Frederick Ouseley in 1856 as a boys Preparatory School. Ouseley created the school to provide a model for the performance of Anglican church music. Choral services were performed daily in term time.
“St. Michael’s College is a Tractarian dream come true. Its foundation stone was laid in 1854, and it was built and endowed by Sir Frederick Ouseley, a rich bachelor baronet, who came under Tractarian influence when an undergraduate at Christ Church.
St Michael's College Society, Tenbury, UK – Former Pupils, Staff and Friends of SMC. The SMC Society exists to maintain links for those who attended or were involved with the original College prior to its closure in 1985.
28 de may. de 2020 · THE future of one of the finest examples of Gothic style architecture, and a part of the life of Tenbury for longer than anyone can remember, is in doubt. This follows the decision to close St Michael’s International College.
Along with its chapel (which is seen on the right here), this is a former choral music college, founded in 1856 by Sir Frederick Arthur Gore Ouseley (1825-1889) to preserve and enrich the tradition of Anglican church music. The college closed in in 1985, and the chapel took on a new role as the parish church.
It is well known that St. Michael’s College is a musical institution where pupils are instructed, and with great kindness. Sir F.Gore Ouseley himself favoured his visitors with a voluntary on the organ in grand style, which gave a capital idea of the range of its harmonious powers.
9 de jun. de 2020 · The College kept going for nearly 130 years but, in 1985, it finally succumbed to the demographic pressures which made a tiny, specialist school in the middle of nowhere unsustainable in the modern world.
