Das Köllnische Gymnasium war das erste Berliner Realgymnasium. Das Gebäude der Schule wurde 1868 in der Berliner Vorstadt Neu-Kölln Ecke Insel-/Wallstraße nach Angaben des Stadtbaurats Adolf Gerstenberg vom Stadtbauinspektor Arnold Hanel errichtet. Heute befindet sich die Musikschule Fanny Hensel in dem denkmalgeschützten Baukomplex.

Das Gymnasium wirkte überregional und hatte viele nichtberliner Zöglinge, seit 1830 besaß es sogar eine eigene Pensionsanstalt. Die Zöglinge kamen meist aus den wohlhabenden Schichten, aber in Ausnahmefällen wurden ärmeren Begabten Stipendien zuteil.
