Professor Ratbaggy is a sometime four-piece band based in Melbourne, Australia. Sometimes thought of as a side-project of iconic Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly, the band is in fact its own entity: Kelly is one of the four members (song writing generally shared).
He created the character of the "squeaky-voiced moppet" Joy-Belle and Professor Ratbaggy, which owed its origins to Denzil Howson's Professor Nitwitty from the late 1950s, and he appeared as Uncle Ernie.

Professor Ratbaggy was the title claimed by Paul Kelly (one of our country’s best loved songsmiths) and three regular members of his band – Peter Luscombe (drums), Steve Hadley (bass) and Bruce Haymes (keyboards), who could usually be found around their hometown of Melbourne playing as a trio called The Casuals.
