Alex Binnie (born Alexander Michael Steven Binnie, 11 July 1959, Oxford, England) is a tattooist, and printmaker; he has been a musician and performance artist.
My name is Alex Binnie. I’ve been making tattoos since the late 1980’s, a time before tattooing became the circus that it seems to have become now. I was lucky enough to work through, and be involved in, the golden age when tattooing “grew up” and became what it is you see today.
alexbinnie.com. I started making prints around 2000. The earlier prints seen here are screenprints, the later ones woodcuts and linocuts. Everything has been handmade by me, the screens prepared, exposed and pulled by me, the relief prints hand cut and printed, many on an antique press made in 1833.
I started tattooing in the late 1980’s. The works here span my entire career from a squat in Bloomsbury, London through the early 90’s in L.A. to the 23 years I worked at Into You in Clerkenwell.
