White and distant, absorbed in itself, endlessly the sky covers and uncovers, moves and remains. A lake? Blot the shores of it out! A mountain? Oh, perfect—the sun gold on its slopes. Down that falls.
In ‘Monday or Tuesday’, we are deliberately made to feel disoriented, forced as we are to shift our focus from the heron (the initial subject of the story) to the sky, and then to the world indoors, with its firelight and tea, although the outside world is constantly breaking in.
Monday or Tuesday is a 1921 short story collection by Virginia Woolf published by The Hogarth Press. 1000 copies were printed with four full-page woodcuts by Vanessa Bell. Leonard Woolf called it one of the worst printed books ever published because of the typographical mistakes in it.

Monday or Tuesday is a brilliant and striking series of impressions, written in Woolf’s characteristic lyrical and startling prose. My Review: This short book, only 54pp in my Dover Thrift Edition, is the best and the worst of La Woolf.
