Akira just 100% fully believes everything Ryo tells him without any evidence what so ever, at least in the manga Ryo actually shows him evidence that devils exist. The show doesn’t explain anything, so for 20 minutes I had no idea what was happening.
Then having it be revealed he was just Satan’s pawn hopelessly in love with Satan till the point of death a direct parallel to Ryo and akira. I have some other changes and story ideas if y’all are interested
