In the 1623 First Folio, they wrote that they had published the Folio "onely to keepe the memory of so worthy a Friend, & Fellow aliue, as was our Shakespeare , by humble offer of his playes".

All three were named in the will of William Shakespeare who died in Stratford Upon Avon in 1616. The latter two - Burbage himself dying in 1619 - arrange for the publication of the First Folio in 1623.
