Hace 2 días · Edward's son Thomas (d. 1759) was created Baron Lovel and, in 1744, Viscount Coke and earl of Leicester, but his son Edward having predeceased him, the Coke titles became extinct and the estate was settled on Thomas's sister's son Wenman Roberts, who took the surname Coke.

Hace 6 días · Given his posthumous reputation as a defender of the rights of the subject, Sir Edward Coke’s claim in the parliament of 1628 seems sly at best, an outright falsehood at worst. Coke, after all, made this assertion in the context of arguments that pointed to a very different conception of the political order from that shared by Charles I.
