7 de jul. de 2024 · “Gummo” was written and directed by Harmony Korine, and released in 1997. I want to start this review by noting that “Gummo” is rated R for pervasive depiction of anti-social behavior of juveniles, including violence, substance abuse, sexuality and language.
Hace 1 día · Shot in Korine’s native Nashville—standing in for the tornado-ravaged Xenia, Ohio—the rough-hewn film follows two young friends, Tummler and Solomon, as they ride around town, huffing glue and hunting stray cats, their every local encounter charged with vaudevillian anarchy as well as deep pathos.
2 de jul. de 2024 · In the world of Gummo, feline murder is somewhat commonplace. Cats don't last long in this small town, and everyone seems to have a terrible story about pet death. Each is more gruesome than the next, and each is delivered with a lack of emotion.
6 de jul. de 2024 · Critics may argue against the often senseless violence depicted in “Gummo,” but the reality is that many of the character's actions in the film are based on real events happening in the area during production, and many of the scenes feature non-actors improvising off of minimal prompting by Korine.
