Alan. The export method is not limited, but the underlying grid loads 1000 rows by default. You can press the "Show all" button on the top right to get all of your 20,000 rows: Note that this also has a maximum number of 100,000 rows. You can set both values (step/maximum) in Tools > Preferences > Grid formatting.

I know HeidiSql is written with Delphi, so can you build a version runs on mac With RAD . No, you can't. But you can run HeidiSQL through Wine on a Mac. I have been using heidisql on mac in wine for years, but recently it stopped working and I have not been able to fix it. Heidisql is by far the best tool.
The message "access denied" means you have to find the right password for root. A fresh MySQL server normally has an empty password set for this root user. If you changed that password yourself, noone else than you will be able to tell it. Or, you can temporarily configure the server to ignore the authentication tables, so you can connect to it ...
For a full backup I recommend activating. create database. create tables. data: insert. max insert size: 1024K. output: single .sql file. There is an online help for that dialog, and it is just a click away, if you click on the question mark in the title bar of that dialog. It will take you to that verbose help section.
