30 de oct. de 2006 · Sir Alan Frederick Lascelles GCB GCVO CMG MC was a British courtier and civil servant who held several positions in the first half of the twentieth century, culminating in his position as Private Secretary to both King George VI and to Queen Elizabeth II.
Alan Frederick Lascelles, known as 'Tommy', was born on 11 April 1887, the son of Commander Frederick Canning Lascelles and Frederica Maria Liddell. He was educated at Hazelhurst preparatory school, Marlborough College and Trinity College, Oxford. During the First World War, Lascelles served in France with the Bedfordshire Yeomanry (1914-18).

6 de ago. de 2020 · Tommy Lascelles, as he was known, was christened Alan. His uncle was 5th Earl of Harewood, whose son married George V's daughter, the Princess Royal. Won MC during WWI, served briefly in India, where he met his future wife Joan, the daughter of the Viceroy.

1 de nov. de 2006 · Alan "Tommy" Lascelles served four British monarchs as Assistant Private Secretary or Private Secretary from 1935 until 1953. In these important roles, Lascelles would have contact with George V, Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II. He kept a diary from early 1936 (about the time of George V's death) until after WWII in 1946.
