Hertford College was established in the 1280s as Hart Hall and became a college in 1740 (although it was dissolved in 1816 and revived in 1874). The first Hertford College began life as Hart Hall or Aula Cervina, a small tenement bought by Elias de Hertford from Walter de Grendon.
Geoffrey Warnock was the Principal of Hertford College for seventeen years; he was also elected Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford in 1981. Warnock left a legacy to the college – and his and Mary’s commitment and dedication to Hertford’s future is the reason the legacy society has been named in their memory.

Jane Corrigan, our Student Welfare Lead, is the college’s Disability Coordinator and provides support with administration and liaison for all current students with disabilities.
Hertford offers college-owned accommodation for all years of your course & first years are housed together on main site in the centre of oxford. The accommodation is all really nice, with great rooms and kitchen facilities. Graduate accommodation has a very spacious room a fairly large kitchen and access to laundry within the house.
