He was a son of Rodulf II de Warenne and Emma and a grandnephew of duchess Gunnor, wife of duke Richard I of Normandy.
When William de Warenne 1st Earl of Surrey was born about 1035, in Bellencombre, Seine-Maritime, Upper Normandy, France, his father, Ranulph II de Warenne, was 25 and his mother, Emma de Bellecombe de Pont Audemer, was 21. He married Gundred de St Omer about 1075, in Normandy, France. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 2 daughters.
Life. John was born on either 24 or 30 June 1286 [a] and baptised on 7 November of that year. [1] He was the son of William de Warenne, the only son of John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey. His mother was Joan, daughter of Robert de Vere, 5th Earl of Oxford . Warenne was only six months old when his father died.
