Desde cedo, o jovem Fernand estava destinado a ter uma carreira jurídica, uma vez que a maioria dos membros masculinos de sua família eram advogados ou juízes. Em sua primeira infância (1859-1864), Khnopff morou na cidade de Bruges, capital da província de Flanders, onde seu pai foi nomeado substituto do procurador-geral do rei.
Fernand Khnopff (ur. 12 września 1858 w Grembergen, zm. 12 listopada 1921 w Brukseli) – belgijski malarz symbolista, grafik i rzeźbiarz. Zrezygnował ze studiów prawniczych i rozpoczął naukę malarstwa na Królewskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Brukseli ( 1876 ). Trzy lata później porzucił Akademię i przeniósł się do Paryża.
