The House of the Tailor of Gloucester is today a charming museum and quaint shop. The building is easy to find. It is in College Court which stands within the shadow of the Cathedral. This was the building, Beatrix Potter chose to draw (page 37 in The Tailor of Gloucester) which inspired her to write what she described as her ‘favourite book’.

A Gloucester tailor named John Pritchard (1877-1934) had been asked to make a suit for the mayor. He arrived at work one Monday morning to find the suit completed, except for one buttonhole.
The Tailor of Gloucester has dedicated the whole top floor of 9 College Court, as a delightful Beatrix Potter Museum, displaying her magical work. Many of the items that are on display have been very kindly donated for all to see. There are many items, from books to figurines, needlecraft to dated soft toys, including rare items, from the past to the present.
