The band's logo, first seen on the cover of Master of Reality (1971). 1968–1969: Formation and early days. Following the break-up of their previous band, Mythology, in 1968, guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward sought to form a heavy blues rock band in Aston, Birmingham.

This logo was used on their sixth album, Sabotage (1975). It was also used in the 1976 greatest hits album We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll. This particular shape of the letter S was first seen on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973).
