Professor Gunnar Maelstrom is a doctor of psychology, professor at V.I.L.E. Academy, one of the five members of the V.I.L.E. Faculty, and is a practitioner of mental psychiatry. He is often seen with some sort of Rorschach inkblot test nearby.
He was one of the greatest criminals of his time, known for his violent tendencies, and was caught by then-ACME Agent Carmen Sandiego and the C.H.I.E.F., swearing revenge on her. He was voiced by Tim Curry.

Carmen Sandiego is the titular primary protagonist of the 2019 Netflix animated series Carmen Sandiego. She learned how to become a professional thief at V.I.L.E. Academy, but later defected to see the world for her own. She plans and executes capers with partners Player, Zack, Ivy, and Shadowsan .
These evil masterminds—Coach Brunt, Countess Cleo, Dr. Bellum, Professor Maelstrom, and Shadowsan—have different specialties. They helped train Carmen but now will do anything to stop her! Skills: Hand-to-hand combat, death ray expertise, psychological manipulation, and super-stealth.
Dr. Gunnar Maelstrom (voiced by Tim Curry) – A hostile and extremely violent criminal who considers Carmen Sandiego his archenemy and appears in the three part "Retribution" episodes. As an ACME detective, Carmen pursued him and eventually put him in prison following his attempt to steal the wreck of the Titanic .
