Sam always had a desire to serve his country but, when he witnessed the 9/11 terrorist attacks, that desire became an ironclad resolve. One year later, Sam was accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Brown was born in Arkansas in a military family with a father and two younger brothers who also served in the War on Terror after the September 11 attacks. He was educated at the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 2006.
We were the first class to enter West Point during wartime since Vietnam — all of the leadership and military training was to lead troops in combat. Four years later, I was commissioned as an Infantry Officer.
