Doubt, A Parable is a dramatic stage play written by American playwright John Patrick Shanley. Originally staged off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club on November 23, 2004, the production transferred to the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway in March 2005 and closed on July 2, 2006 after 525 performances and 25 previews.

Doubt: A Parable is a 2005 play by John Patrick Shanley that analyzes an instance of doubt and suspicion in a Catholic school in the Bronx in the 1960s. In nine scenes, the play tells the story of principal Sister Aloysius’s suspicions about an inappropriate relationship between a priest, Father Flynn, and a young male student.
Father Flynn delivers a sermon at St. Nicholas School and Church in the Bronx in 1964. Addressing the idea of religious uncertainty, he tells a story about a cargo ship that sinks in the middle of the ocean. Everyone on board drowns except one man, who manages to build a makeshift raft.
Doubt is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision: should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues...even if she's not entirely certain of the truth? Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, it makes for a very potent evening, to be sure.
