Constructed in 1927, the Venetian Causeway provides an important connection between Miami and Miami Beach. The Causeway has 12 bridges: 10 fixed span bridges and 2 bascule leaf span bridges. The bridges are designated as historic landmarks by the City of Miami and City of Miami Beach.
The Venetian Causeway crosses Biscayne Bay between Miami on the mainland and Miami Beach on a barrier island in the Miami metropolitan area. The man-made Venetian Islands and non- bridge portions of the causeway were created by materials which came from the dredging of the bay.
