Jules Dupré fue un pintor francés nacido en Nantes en 1812 y fallecido en 1889. Estuvo en relación, aunque sólo episódicamente, con la Escuela de Barbizon integrada por pintores paisajistas y tuvo una relación fraternal, y en ocasiones tempestuosa, con Theodore Rousseau .
