The University of Shimane (島根県立大学, Simane kenritsu daigaku) is a public university in Hamada, Shimane, Japan. The predecessor of the school was founded in 1993, and it was chartered as a university in 2000.

The modern Shimane University was created in 2003 after a formation with the Medical University in the same Shimane region, on Honshu island in southern Japan. The main campus is in a coastal region near Matsue Castle, a medieval construct recognised as a national treasure of Japan in 2015.
